Personal Healthy Diets

These days, we all have our own idea of what a healthy diet is. Seemingly, people who are under a weight loss regimen have their own set of health foods which will help them achieve their ideal weight in less time. That goes the same for the rest of us. Even when there are prescribed food groups that should constitute our diet, we still have our own preferences. People choose not to eat some food because of a variety of personal reasons.

People who have allergic reactions to some food, for example, can not strictly follow one diet regimen. Diets are often the result of the nutritional requirement of an individual in the light of existing diseases. Religion also plays a major part in one’s food preference. The taste and appearance of food are also reasons why people choose to eat them or not. Come to think of it, there is not a single diet regimen that can work for all. We still need to adjust a particular diet in accordance with our personal needs and preferences.

Healthy diets do not necessarily translate to food deprivation. A healthy diet consists of a variety of food from every food group but in ample serving. There should be a proportional amount of every kind of food from all good groups. When you provide your body with all the necessary nutrients it needs then you are on your way to following a healthy diet.

While strictly limiting yourself to eating veggies, you may not be getting the right amount of nutrients like iron, selenium and vitamins. Vitamin B12 is more abundant in meats than in vegetables. Vegetarians do not get sufficient amounts of proteins that are needed to help build muscles. Strenuous works outs and other heavy exercises are not advisable for vegetarians because muscles often get torn and requires a lot of protein to rebuild them. On the other hand, eating too much meat and less of the green stuff is not good either. Serious diseases such as heart ailments and cancers are prevented by eating a healthy dose of fruits and vegetables.

Being healthy is equal to eating a balanced amount of food. Your diet should consist of one-third fruits and anther one-third with starch-rich food like bread and pasta. The other third part is then apportioned to equal amounts of meat, sweets and dairy products. There are numerous benefits to eating a healthy diet but this requires much discipline on our part.

Eating healthy means there is a balances intake of every kind of food and not necessarily avoiding them. Living a cancer-free life in a world of fast food, pollution and environmental degradation is already a blessing in itself. Keeping it that way is the challenge.

Make sure that you put as much effort as possible into eating a healthy diet. The long term benefits will be worth the small amount of effort that is required.
